Hell, it doesn't even have to be something with a speciffic goal, but you must act as soon as the bell rings in your brain (sometimes this is refered as light bulb).
The elder search engines have been around for a little more than 10 years not, Google started in 96 and beats me when Yahoo did, probably before. 10 years and a shitload of money in the development of a web indexing monster means the robot has human touch and feel. Google knows when pages are automatically generated, when you spam, when you buy links, etc. Such a smart motherfucker. It's been cutting down on spammy results recently that so many webmasters from umax are complaining nowadays. Also you may have noticed that large websites with Pagerank 10 reputation have dropped to pagerank 9. This is all due to the new algorithms search engines have implemented. We are all trying to use new black hat and white hat methods with the final goal of reaching high ranking positions.
The ideal marketing strategy would be to invest some money in your website so that you have a kick start. But what happens when you don't want to invest any? The search engine optimization method would be obvious, but remember time is the critical key here. And time does mean by money. Let's say you create a free blog, start linking and struggling to reach the top of your niche. It would take approx. 3 months before you see any results at all. Again, the clock factor is a big issue among SEO today, but nontheless there is hope because one wise man said "content is king". As you swim along in the river of results you'll see that rock solid websites are the ones that stay. Logs flow easily to the Sea of Noindex.
I always enjoyed computer games. Ever since i was a little pain in the parrent's asses, I loved to kill the keyboard. Key - Board is fun. I recently chose to run the old computer game niche. It's hard to rank there because i'm late. I steal content from old websites because there's no time to review the games myself. This is probably bad but who knows. I want results and i want them now!
